Sages, hags and druids of old age: Extended tournament this weekend!

Due to popular request, we’ve scraped the Standard tournament planned for this weekend and replaced with this… well, you know now. Unlike every other tournament before, however, this one’s organization scheme is a bit more complicated. Read on to see how it goes. Or you can skip and just go register.

Predetermined participation

From this point on we’re only gathering each Saturday if there are at least 8 players participating. Throughout the past month we’ve had some pretty sad experiences where a few of us would be very excited about the coming event and would spend up to an entire night building and testing decks, only to realize that the event wouldn’t be sanctioned due to lack of participation.

Every week, every player will have to announce participation on the forum. If there are at least 8 players, the event will take place. If there are more, even better!

True meaning to “the more, the merrier”

I’ve realized that some of you wouldn’t participate in certain events due to location issues, such as smoking. Unfortunately, a better location isn’t free, but there’s hope.

Every time you announce participation for the event, you’ll have to say what sum you’re willing to spend that Saturday at the Magic event. If at least 150 lei is estimated, we will have access to playing a more special location. Otherwise, we’ll play in Arte Bar. If you’d only be playing in the special location, you’d have to specify so in your participation announcement.

The more special location is Pasadena, where we’d have our own room for playing Magic, with 24 seats. The requirements? At the end of the event we’d have to have spent at least 150 lei, no matter how many participants, and that we’d be done before night fall. When we play in this location, smoking will only be allowed between rounds, in a specially designated place in the room.

Why such harsh rules?

It should be quite easy to understand: people don’t show up for tournaments. If there would be 10-12 players every week guaranteed (not necessarily the same ones every time) things would be a lot easier to handle. And about the location: you have to think to yourselves that if you’d own a public place and 8-10 people would spend 3-5 hours there every Saturday, it wouldn’t be for free.

We’re not a horde of people, so in order to keep things happening, we’d have to all work together and build this community of planeswalkers. And rest assured: when there will be at least 40 active Magic players in Iasi, a tournament center will be a worthwhile business which someone will attend to.

I feel a little guilty for this harsh decision because I didn’t participate in the last two events…
Anyway, I would like to come and play even the event isn’t sanctioned, so being 8 or more people wouldn’t be a must, at least for me. It’s ok to register before the event, but this should count only in finding a better location, not for the event itself. After all, we’re playing for fun, not only for gathering points :)
