If you’re a keen observer of the Calendar of Events you most probably already know that we’re having a Conflux Prerelease party in schedule for the end of January. Also in schedule for the beginning of the year: find alternative places to host tournaments; get more people to become planeswalkers and join us in tournaments.

Conflux Prerelease party

As with every prerelease, we’ll be playing limited sealed deck. You’ll receive a Shards of Alara Tournament Pack, 3 Conflux Booster Packs and a special commemorative foil card. The prize for this event will consist of Conflux Booster Packs.

For this prerelease we can host up to 16 players. The pre-registration list will be filed on the forum. If more than 16 player are pre-registered before January 15th, we’ll try to accommodate. The registration price will be announced a couple of weeks before the event, but it should be around 100 RON, and it counts towards the goods you’ll receive and prize support.

Note: Wizards of the Coast may change the prerelease format as well as any other details regarding the prerelease a few weeks before the event actually takes place. If anything changes, we’ll keep you posted on this website.

Location

The deal with our current host was that we can come in and play anytime we want so long as we were buying drinks and that there was no gambling that involved money. Unfortunately we don’t do the first part so well, or at least not as well as they’d expect. So for the next year they’ve put a bar of at least 15 RON each person (worth of buying stuff from the bar) every time we’re gathering. Considering we’re there for 4-5 hours every Saturday, and with it being a public place and all, I find the sum OK. However, I know that some of you would rather spend that money on a Booster Pack or simply can’t afford to go as high every Saturday.

So we need to discuss this and if necessary find a new place that would host our tournaments.

Recruiting

I know for sure there are more Magic players in Iasi than the ones regularly coming to tournaments. I’ve gathered this intel through rumors and seeing how the Diverta shelves clear of Magic products. So we need to find these people (and more) and bring them to tournaments. For both their and our enjoyment. There are basically two ways (that I could come up with so far) to get new people on board.

One is passive recruiting: we should create some kind of leaflets to be distributed with Magic products in Diverta and LEX Copy Center. These leaflets would contain information like: when and where we play, with a list of upcoming events, this website’s address and a message about our openness to helping them with Magic skills.

The other is active recruiting: you get a few friends who might be interested to play Magic with you. Just give them a deck and start playing their first game. Explain the rules, help them play a little and maybe even let them win (but not without a fight). They’re either hooked after the first few games, or won’t play at all.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the forum.

A Happy New Year to everyone, and hope you have a successful year in Magic as well as others!
