Much anticipated, like any new set or expansion for that matter, the Conflux pre-release happens tomorrow world-wide! It’s a great thing that we can share this along with millions of planeswalkers world wide: ripping open the first booster packs of Conflux and playing with the new cards for the first time!
Event details
As announced on the forum a few days ago, we’re playing in Arte Bar tomorrow. The bar opens at 17:00 and there are 20 minutes for registration before the game. The registration fee is 90 lei, which is what the booster packs are worth. Deck building begins at 17:30, with us opening the booster packs. There are 20 minutes for deck registration and 30 minutes for deck construction. The first round begins at 18:30.
Please do not to bring more than what you need for tomorrow. Bring only basic lands, a deck box, sleeves and dice. Pen and paper for keeping score is also permitted, unless you’d use something else for that.
We’re playing Sealed Deck with 3 Shards of Alara booster packs and 3 Conflux booster packs each (as depicted above). You can add any number of basic lands to your deck, and any of the unused cards act as your sideboard. Trading is not permitted until the game is over: you are not allowed to exchange any of the cards received in the booster packs, except for basic lands and tokens.
Participation
8 players have pre-registered, but we have room for 8 more in case you want to join in! So far we’re half of the active players that I know in Iaşi to participate in this event. I was predicting a bit more participation, but at least we’re enough to sanction it. Some spectators have also announced their participation, which means people are interested in the expansion, so we can hope to see some Conflux decks in Standard play soon.
Predictions for Limited play
I don’t know how Conflux will roll in Limited play, since it’s main has a lot of 5-color combos and that’s hard to roll with, even in Standard. The advantage of a smaller-sized deck will make the difference, none the less, but I still believe most mana-fixing cards in Shards of Alara are much slower than what you can get in Standard. Shards of Alara wasn’t too appealing in our draft, so I doubt we’ll see a draft like ALA/ALA/CON.
Six boosters packs are worth 90 lei. A foiled prerelease card and having fun with friends discovering a new expansion: priceless.
