The Two Headed Giant
October 17th, 2008Yes, I’ve finally had this website setup, but there’s no time for a recap now, let’s just have a heads-up for tomorrow’s competition (even that is late, but I hope it comes in handy). Mainly we’ll have a look over what new rules apply to this kind of tournament.
Tomorrow we’re meeting at the same place, but a different time: around 12:30. The reason is people having begun classes at the university. That means the first round will start around 13:00, and if there are three rounds we’ll finish around 16:00.
Rules
For best results you should read the DCI™ Two-Headed Giant FAQ, as it contains all the information you need for tomorrow. Here’s a summary, though:
Each team has a shared life total, which starts at 30 life. With the exception of life total, a team’s resources (cards in hand, mana, and so on) are not shared. At any time, a single player’s life is half the life of the team, rounded up.
There is only one match each round, so there’s no need to build a sideboard. With the exception of basic land cards, a team’s combined decks may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title. Example: if one player is using four copies of the card Naturalize in a Two-Headed Giant Constructed event, no other player on that team may have a Naturalize in his or her deck.
If the match time limit is reached before a winner is determined, the active team finishes its turn and three total additional turns are played. If neither team has won the game after the 3 extra turns, the game (and match) ends in a draw.
Sanctioning
The tournament will be sanctioned if 4 or more teams are participating. (Thanks to Mydas for clearing that one up. I’ve been looking for it the whole week.) It seems we might have 5 teams tommorrow, which means we’ll have 3 rounds, and there will be a bye team in each of them.
Best of luck to everyone tomorrow!
